The Giza plateau is located in Egypt in a city known as Giza. Giza is located on the banks of the Nile River several kilometers southwest of central Cairo. The Giza plateau is a famous tourist attraction as it has some of the world’s most impressive monuments, pyramids, tombs and temples. The monuments include the Great Sphinx and the Great Pyramid of Giza. The tombs are those of Egyptian rulers such as Pharaoh Djet and Pharaoh Ninetjer who ruled in the first and second dynasty respectively. The Giza plateau has been a great tourist attraction since tne immemorial and was one of the reasons that led the British to want to rule in the 19th and early 20th century. This is the same that has recently beckoned the Egyptian government to improve its infrastructure such as roads and housing. The Giza plateaus great cultural center is accessed from Cairo international airport.
Many foreigners view the plateau as a dry desert region mostly due to the images they receive but actually the city is now a part of Cairo’s metropolis as houses and infrastructure line up all the way to the reserves perimeter. The plateau has over the years also attracted many businesses due to the high number of people visiting this famous place including Pizza Hut and KFC restaurants. In fact Giza city has become one of Africa’s most populous cities with a population of more than two million people according to the 2006 census.
